As a nonprofit organization, Institute for Patient-Centered Design
is led by a small, diverse group of individuals committed to its
mission.  With backgrounds in health facility design, public
engagement, and education, each officer also brings personal
experience as patients and family members to promote
compassionate and thoughtful design.  Our leadership also
utilizes the expertise of an invaluable advisory committee,
representing the perspectives of patients, medical professionals
and design professionals.

Tammy Thompson, NCARB, M.Arch
Architect, Medical Planner
Tammy Thompson brings to the organization over 12 years of
experience contributing to the quality of healthcare delivery
through planning and design of healthcare facilities.  Her
motivation for healthcare design originates from her experience
as a patient.  She utilizes this passion to develop innovative
design solutions to address the challenges that patients face.  
Tammy has authored numerous articles and presentations on the
subject of design intervention to improve the healing
environment.  She also serves on the Executive Committee of the
American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for
Health of Georgia.

Natasha Ramey, MPA
Community Development Coordinator
Natasha Ramey brings to the organization a background in
service to the public.  She has spent years engaging the public to
assess and respond to their needs.  She skillfully communicates
with diverse groups within the private sector, local, regional and
state government agencies.  Natasha has a personal stake in
improving the healthcare environment.  She responds to the
needs of others with a compassionate ear and thoughtful
solutions.  With an education in public administration and career
experience in the United States and Europe, Natasha Ramey is
well suited to lead the development of the Institute’s outreach
initiatives.    

Shanta Gilles, MS
Educator
Shanta Gilles brings to the organization a strong desire to
contribute to the well being of children.  She has served as a
volunteer within a children’s hospital, as well as multiple roles for
a nonprofit children’s organization.  Her teaching experience in
the United States and abroad has prepared her to contribute to
the development of the Institute's programs and resources.  In
addition to her professional experience, Shanta manages the
long term nursing care of an elderly family member.  This
personal responsibility enables her to relate to the challenges
that patients and their families face in the healthcare
environment.  


Kimberly Newton McMurray, AIA, EDAC, MBA
Architect, Health Facility Design Director
Kimberly McMurray brings to the organization an extensive
background in health facility design practice, medical planning
and project management.  She has served as past AIA
Birmingham Chapter President and Executive Committee Member
and as a previous Leader Advocate with the Planetree Visionary
Design Network.  With experience on the  Arizona State University
College of Design Healthcare Initiative Advisory Board (2009-
2010), and Evidence Based Design Accreditation by The Center
for Health Design, Kimberly is well qualified to lead the design
and academic partnership initiatives of the Institute.
